Brazing

Brazing

Brazing in a furnace at temperatures between 900 and 1100 °C requires a protective gas atmosphere; the selection depends on the type of filler material and on the type of jointed materials. Argon and helium offer universal protection of surfaces for all kind of metals because they are absolutely inert. Heating and cooling must be performed under protective atmosphere. Application of active gas atmospheres (endo gas, methanol) for brazing of steels is not appropriate because decarburization or carburization take place on steel surface. However, for brazing with carburizing controlled active gas atmospheres are adapted for both processes.
